Discovery and Conquest of Mexico 1517-1521
By Bernal Diaz Del Castillo
Guys, I have read many books in my sixty six years of living. And there are many books of which I have forgotten even having read.
History being my favorite subject, I have several books that come to mind which are cornerstones in my memory banks, which I hold as invaluable to understanding a great part of mankind’s historical landmarks.
Bernal Diaz Del Castillo was with Cortez and several hundred Spaniards along with confederate indigenous Native American tribes when Moctezuma was defeated.
Bernal has written a tome here.
Historians from the sixteenth century on have used his eye witness testimony as the foundation for everything ever written about this period of American history.
I had donated my copy to a local high school “Spanish Club” and have lamented not having the ghost of Bernal Diaz Del Castillo in its rightful place in my library.
I found a 1956 hardcover copy today at Amazon.com
It’s in the mail and I am a happy camper once more knowing that this Conquistador of sword and plume will soon be close by my side once more.
Again, I will not do a review, but for this you can go to Amazon.com, Google search engine and Wikipedia for reviews.
However I strongly recommend this to any student on the history of the European conquest of the indigenous Native peoples in the Americas.
